Getty ImagesFor an athlete caught using steroids, the four-game suspension is nothing compared to the scarlet ?S? that gets applied to their permanent P.R. record.
The player never will be viewed the same way. ?If he succeeds, cynics will say it?s because he?s using steroids. ?If he becomes average or worse, the fact that he?s not using steroids any longer will be identified as the reason.
But since the league says nothing publicly about the reason for a suspension imposed under the NFL policy regarding anabolic steroids and related substances, the player who is suspended can say whatever he wants ? and the league never will correct the record.
Previously, players popped for steroids blamed a spiked over-the-counter supplement. ?Even if anyone ever bought that excuse, no one does anymore.
And so it could be that the new non-steroid alibi arises from Adderall, a prescription ADD medication.
Giants safety Tyler Sash blames his four-game suspension on Adderall. ?Previously, Packers defensive end Mike Neal did the same thing. ?Both claim they were using it with a prescription.
If they?re telling the truth (and we?re not saying they aren?t), why didn?t the NFL reduce or eliminate their suspensions?
Giants running back Andre Brown was using Adderall with a prescription but without advance approval from the league. ?He tested positive, he appealed, and his suspension was lifted. ?Ditto for Texans punter Brett Hartmann, whose four-game suspension was cut to three ? and who now has approval to take Adderall.
If Neal and Sash are telling the truth, the NFL?s procedures seem to be horribly inconsistent. ?(Then again, even if Neal and Sash aren?t telling the truth, the fact that Brown got no suspension and Hartmann received three games makes no sense.)
Either way, Adderall provides players with a convenient strategy for avoiding the stigma of steroids. ?The fact that league can say nothing about the facts and circumstances surrounding the suspension allows the players to say whatever they want.

Jim Ross on Bobby Heenan, Gorilla Monsoon
When I first arrived in WWE after having a somewhat high profile on-air role in WCW, it was WrestleMania season. In a way, I was perceived to be the voice of WCW after the Ted Turner/TBS buyout of Jim Crockett Promotions. That ?claim to fame? did not endear me to many WWE personnel.
So, the first day that I arrived at the WWE TV studio to begin my new job, let?s just say that I wasn?t greeted so warmly by many WWE staff members and a few of on-air talents. Think horrific halitosis, spinach on teeth, etc.
Two men that did treat me well from day one were Bobby Heenan and Gorilla Monsoon. Thanks to them being old pros and having the class of a pair of WWE Hall of Famers and true gentlemen, I was given a chance to prove myself to them as a human being. Essentially, ?The Brain? and Gorilla welcomed me into the territory.
I have no issue to this very day in saying that I love both men and that they will always hold a special place in my heart. Both were old school and from a different generation that judged a man on how he treated them and did not base their relationship on someone competing for their spot, having to share their TV time, or where one previously worked.
My first WWE experience is generally thought of as broadcasting at WrestleMania IX in Las Vegas, and it was my first live broadcast. Yes, my first day on the job while working without a net was at WWE?s biggest event of the year, outdoors at Caesar?s Palace.
However, prior to flying to Vegas from Connecticut, on the preceding Thursday, I did Wrestling Challenge voiceovers with Heenan that aired after WrestleMania IX. We immediately had chemistry. He was a brilliant, old school antagonist who I had been taught to always allow the last word and generally Bobby?s last word was pure gold.
?The Weasel? ? or ?Wease? as we called him ? had as good natural timing as any performer with which I?ve ever worked. He was naturally funny (never took a note, by the way) and enhanced every single talent, including the heroes, even though Bobby did not support the fan favorites as the bad guy announcer. Bobby Heenan did what every announcer should strive to do and that is to make talent bigger stars than they are and to embellish every talent?s TV persona.?
Bobby was SO funny that many times during taped, voiceover segments he would make me laugh so hard that we would have to stop rolling so that I could get regain my composure. He loved doing that because he knew that if it entertained me then it would likely be entertaining to the viewer. There is no doubt in my mind that if Bobby had chosen to be a standup comedian or a comedic actor that he would have been tremendous. But the kid who used to buy mice and milk for Dick the Bruiser?s reptiles in Indianapolis blessed the wresting business by being in it.????
Bobby and I jelled on Wrestling Challenge broadcasts and, for those that remember those days, let me assure you that they were some of the most entertaining times of my life. The Brain truly helped me become better at my on-air role and he entertained me as much as he did his fans. I will forever consider it a huge honor to have been paired with Bobby Heenan and I think about him daily as he battles a stiffly dealt hand with health issues.
There is always the ongoing argument as to who the greatest performer in the history of the business is and there will never be a definitive answer because the question is too subjective. However, for my money, as an in-ring talent, a manager, an interviewer, and a broadcaster NO ONE has done it all BETTER than Bobby ?The Brain? Heenan. I can make a valid argument that Bobby Heenan is pro wrestling?s great performer.

Indonesia lowers power lines to deter train surfers
Indonesia has lowered overhead power cables on a busy train line into Jakarta to stop people travelling on carriage roofs, officials said Monday, in a move critics said was dangerous and irresponsible.
State-run rail operator PT Kereta Api Indonesia said it began lowering cables Friday by around one metre (three feet) on sections of the 59-kilometre (37-mile) route between Jakarta and Bogor city.
"This measure has proven to be very effective and cheap. Nobody dares to sit on the roof because they are afraid of being electrocuted," the company's security official Ahmad Sujadi told AFP.
Work on the rest of the line was due to be finished by August 10, he said.
Commuters hitching a free ride on carriage roofs is a big problem for the rail operator, which has tried several measures to deter the practice, especially during peak hours when carriages are crammed.
These have included spraying paint on roof surfers, installing poles that deliver a painful whack, stationing dogs on train roofs, and hanging boulders above the tracks to knock off "atapers", or "roofers" in the local slang.
The National Commission on Human Rights said the latest measure was not the right way to tackle the problem of fare dodgers.
"It is irresponsible of the operator to trap people in such a dangerous way," the commission's deputy chairman, Nur Kholis, told AFP.
"This is not the best solution to deter people from going on the roof. If the operator provides more carriages and improves the facilities it is unlikely people will go on the roof," he said.
Rights groups have criticised other measures used by the rail operator, saying they compromise public safety and discriminate against the poor, many of whom rely on the overcrowded trains to get to work.

Apple's Jony Ive refutes 'godlessness' of mass-produced gadgets

Apple's senior vice president of industrial design, Sir?Jonathan Ive, defended our gadget-obsessed natures during a recent speech. There's nothing inherently godless about making products in volume, he explained.
As Wired UK's Olivia Solon reported,?Ive gave the speech during the British Embassy's Creative Summit. He talked a lot about how Apple doesn't focus on making money, but on building good products. (The money will come as long as the products are solid and the company is "operationally?competent," he says.)
The trick to getting?things just right, Ive explained while dismissing Augustus Pugin ??an artist who famously rallied against mass production ??is to "invest an incredible amount of care into each [product]."
"You can make one chair carelessly, thoughtlessly, that is valueless. Or you can make a phone [that will eventually go on to be mass produced] and invest so many years of care and have so many people so driven to make the very best phone way beyond any sort of functional imperative that there is incredible value," Ive elaborated, according to Wired UK.

Apple has a tendency to take all the time necessary to build what it deems to be a great product. It doesn't rush anything, and it famously doesn't rely heavily?on market research, which, as Ive points out "will?guarantee mediocrity and will only work out whether you are going to offend anyone."
