Ray Nagin indictment: Key players in the case | NOLA.com

The case against former New Orleans mayor Ray Nagin rests on four guilty pleas and one conviction of five alleged co-conspirators. They are:

Rodney Williams Founder, Three Fold Consultants Pleaded guilty Dec. 5, 2012 to giving Nagin $72,250 in a series of bribes starting in January 2008 in exchange for the mayor's help in securing a number of engineering contracts from the city. All of Three Fold's contracts were no-bid deals, meaning Nagin had considerable leeway in selecting the firm.

Frank Fradella Former chief executive, Home Solutions of America Pleaded guilty June 27, 2012, to one count of securities fraud and one count of conspiring to bribe Nagin. Fradella confessed to paying Nagin a $50,000 bribe in June 2008, and having "numerous truckloads" of free granite delivered to Stone Age LLC, the Nagin family's now-defunct granite business.

Greg Meffert Nagin's chief technology officer from 2002 to 2006 Pleaded guilty in November 2010 to taking about $860,000 in kickbacks from Mark St. Pierre, a friend and contractor who essentially ran the city's technology office under Meffert. The Nagins went to Hawaii with the Mefferts on St. Pierre's nickel in 2004. Nagin has said Meffert claimed to be footing the bill. Meffert was the key witness in St. Pierre's trial and could also testify that Nagin knew St. Pierre provided the Hawaii trip and other goodies. His sentencing has been repeatedly delayed.

Mark St. Pierre Founder of Veracent LLC and former managing partner of Imagine Software LLC Convicted in May 2011 of 53 felony counts of bribing Meffert, and sentenced to 17 ? years in federal prison. Because of his conviction - and his steadfast denials on the witness stand - St. Pierre could be of limited value as a witness. But he could testify that Nagin knew he was underwriting various gifts, including the Hawaii trip as well as jaunts to Jamaica and Chicago. St. Pierre was moved to St. Charles Parish's jail in April 2012 so he could try to work out a deal to reduce his sentence. A status conference in his case, with defense lawyers and prosecutors present, was held Dec. 6.

Aaron Bennett Chief executive of Benetech Pleaded guilty in October 2011 to bribing then-Plaquemines Parish Sheriff Jiff Hingle. Bennett. Bennett's firm, Benetech, oversaw the city's technology contract with St. Pierre for a time, and also won construction contracts, including work at the French Market. Bennett was also close to Fradella and Home Solutions, and Bennett claims to have introduced Nagin and Fradella in January 2007, when Bennett chartered a plane and took the mayor and others to Chicago for the Saints-Bears NFC Championship Game, and from there to Las Vegas. Bennett said he figured Fradella -- whose firm had contracts with Home Depot -- would be able to help Nagin get a granite deal with the retailing giant.
