ViSalus Shakes Work for Those with Thyroid Issues, Synthroid

The ViSalus, Body By Vi Challenge is safe and recommended for people who have gained weight because of thyroid issues and who are using Synthroid to control their thyroid.

Our Visalus shakes can be used with synthroid. We have many people on our Visalus shakes that have over active, inactive, and surgically removed thyroid.

Weight gain associated with thyroid issues and synthroid can be overcome with Visalus shakes.

There is a lot of misinformation and confusion about soy in the marketplace today. In countries where consumption of soy is high (like Japan) the populations are healthier and have fewer health issues than in America today. So we know that there is misinformation, and facts being taken out of context.

Of the concerns over soy, there are a few common ones. First, is referring to raw soybeans, that can contain a form of phytic acid that can block certain minerals absorption. However, that is based on massive consumption quantities, and of the raw soybean and only occurs in those animals that lack the digestive enzyme phytase. It is only an issue for people who consume those foods to get minerals in their diet, and in massive quantities.

DIGESTIVE ENZYME
The issue is in developing countries, and may have a genetic basis as well because they are lacking the digestive enzyme (which can be supplemented and therefore alleviate the concern). It is not an issue for our products because of how we process the ingredients.

ISOFLAVONES GENISTEIN AND DADZEIN
The second common concern with soy are due to some of the components of soy, particularly the isoflavones genistein and dadzein which can affect and inhibit thyroid peroxidase which is necessary for the production of T3 and T4. Thus there is some evidence that it could lead to thryoid enlargement (Goiter) . Our soy has been processed to remove the isoflavones, so this is not an issue.

Don?t let your thyroid or synthroid issues control you ? Visalus may be an option. Try the 90 Day Body By Vi Challenge.

ESTROGEN LEVEL
A third common concern about soy is the effect it may have on estrogen levels in the body. This is again due to the isoflavones, which we have had removed. So this is a non-issue. Another important note is that many menopausal women do supplement with isoflavones, as it has been shown to help them experience fewer side effects of menopause.

NON GMO
Lastly, our Soy is not genetically modified (it is non-GMO). Many people worry about genetically modified soy, and if any of the ingredients got altered in the breeding process. We use the most natural form we can get, that has not been genetically modified.

We use soy because it is a complete protein, easily digested, can build lean muscle equal to (if not slightly better) than soy, and adequate consumption of soy in the diet can help the body reduce cholesterol and the c-reactive protein an indicator of inflammation and heart disease.

The Visalus product can help you with controlling your weight and is safe for use with people who have thyroid issues. The Body By Vi Challenge can work hand in hand with your synthroid use to help you maintain your desired weight. The bottom line is your health ??

Ten Lessons I Learned from Shark Tank

STCubanI just gave up all parenting responsibilities this weekend to Mark Cuban. Meaning, my kids and I watched eight straight episodes of "Shark Tank". For the past two years, people have been begging me to watch ?Shark Tank?. One friend of mine, who has co-invested with me on two deals, has given me two pieces of advice in life. One is: ?you never know what someone is worth until they declare bankruptcy?. The point is, we all speculate that someone is worth $100 million or a billion or whatever, and the next day you read in the newspaper that they declare bankruptcy. Now you know. The second thing my friend and co-investor was always telling me was that ?James, you need to watch Shark Tank?. Now, after watching every episode, I can say I agree with him.

NASA pinning down 'here' better than ever

Friday, February 24, 2012

Before our Global Positioning System (GPS) navigation devices can tell us where we are, the satellites that make up the GPS need to know exactly where they are. For that, they rely on a network of sites that serve as "you are here" signs planted throughout the world. The catch is, the sites don't sit still because they're on a planet that isn't at rest, yet modern measurements require more and more accuracy in pinpointing where "here" is.

To meet this need, NASA is helping to lead an international effort to upgrade the four systems that supply this crucial location information. NASA's initiative is run by Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Md., where the next generation of two of these systems is being developed and built. And Goddard, in partnership with NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, Calif., is bringing all four systems together in a state-of-the-art ground station.

"NASA and its sister agencies around the world are making major investments in new stations or upgrading existing stations to provide a network that will benefit the global community for years to come," says John LaBrecque, Earth Surface and Interior Program Officer at NASA Headquarters.

GPS won't be the only beneficiary of the improvements. All observations of Earth from space?whether it's to measure how far earthquakes shift the land, map the world's ice sheets, watch the global mean sea level creep up or monitor the devastating reach of droughts and floods?depend the International Terrestrial Reference Frame, which is determined by data from this network of designated sites.

Shapeshifting

Earth is a shapeshifter. Land rises and sinks. The continents move. The balance of the atmosphere shifts over time, and so does the balance of the oceans. All of this tweaks Earth's shape, orientation in space and center of mass, the point deep inside the planet that everything rotates around. The changes show up in Earth's gravity field and literally slow down or speed up the planet's rotation.

"In practical terms, we can't determine a location today and expect it to be good enough tomorrow?and especially not next year," says Herbert Frey, the head of the Planetary Geodynamics Laboratory at Goddard and a member of the Space Geodesy Project team.

Measuring such properties of Earth is the realm of geodesy, a time-honored science that dates back to the Greek scholar Eratosthenes, who achieved a surprisingly accurate estimate of the distance around the Earth by using basic geometry.

Around 240 BC, Eratosthenes found that when the sun sat directly above the Nile River town of Syene, it shone an angle of 7.2 degrees (1/50 of a circle) in the northern city of Alexandria. Reasoning that the distance from Alexandria to Syene was 1/50 of the way around the globe, he came up with a circumference of roughly 25,000 miles for Earth, quite close to the modern measurement of 24,902 miles.

"Even with the sophisticated tools we have now, geodesy is still all about geometry," says Frank Lemoine, a Goddard geophysicist on the project.

Team geodesy

As in ancient Greece, geodesy today is a team sport, relying on observations conducted in multiple places. Over the years, four types of space geodesy measurements, carried out by a squad of ground stations and satellites, developed independently. Together, they tell the story of what's happening on Earth and keep track of the Terrestrial Reference Frame.

"While there is some overlap in what can be gleaned from each geodetic technique, they also provide different forms of information based on how they operate," says Jet Propulsion Laboratory's David Stowers, who manages the hardware and data flow for the GPS portion of the space geodesy initiative. "GPS was designed specifically as a positioning system and is fairly ubiquitous, thus providing data strength in numbers. It is unique in providing a physical point of reference for the Terrestrial Reference Frame, with the position of the GPS antenna as the primary type of data."

Another technique, Very Long Baseline Interferometry (VLBI), acts as a kind of GPS for Earth. To deduce Earth's orientation in space, and the small variations in the Earth's rate of rotation, ground stations spread across the globe observe dozens of quasars, which are distant enough to be stable reference points.

"VLBI is the one technique that connects measurements made on Earth to the celestial reference frame?that is, the rest of the universe," says Stephen Merkowitz, who is the project manager for NASA's space geodesy initiative.

The key is the painstakingly accurate timing of when the quasar signals arrive. "With this information, we can determine the geometry of the stations that made the observations," says Chopo Ma, head of the VLBI program at Goddard.

By knowing the geometry, researchers aim to measure the distances between the ground stations down to the millimeter, or about the thickness of a penny.

Keeping tabs on Earth's center of mass is the job of satellite laser ranging (SLR). It measures the distances to orbiting satellites by shooting short pulses of laser light at satellites and measuring the time it takes for the light to complete the round trip back to the ground station.

"SLR tells us where the center of mass is, because satellites always orbit around the planet's center of mass," says Lemoine.

Another way to measure distances to satellites is with DORIS (Doppler Orbitography and Radiopositioning Integrated by Satellite), which was built and is operated by the French space agency, known as CNES.

DORIS takes advantage of the Doppler effect, which is at work when an ambulance's siren changes pitch as it's driving toward or away from you. The same effect retunes the frequency of a radio signal emitted by a DORIS beacon as the signal travels from the ground into space and is received by a satellite orbiting the Earth. By measuring the frequency change, researchers can work backward to figure out the distance from the beacon to the satellite that picked it up.

Like GPS, DORIS requires little hardware on the ground, so its beacons are spread all over the globe, even in areas as remote as the Mount Everest base camp.

Coming together

All ground stations were not created equal. Some sites are home to one technique, others to two or three, and the sophistication of the techniques can vary from station to station. Right now, only Goddard and the station in Johannesburg, South Africa, are providing results from all four. NASA wants to change that.

"The plan for the upgraded system is to have at least three, and preferably all four, techniques at every station," says LaBrecque. "This is one of the keys to achieving the goals of a millimeter of accuracy and a tenth of a millimeter of stability for future measurements."

At the Goddard Geophysical and Astronomical Observatory (GGAO) in Greenbelt, Md., where the state-of-the-art prototype station is being developed, a new VLBI antenna was just installed. Capable of moving faster than its predecessors, the antenna will complete more observations during a run. It's the first piece of a completely revamped VLBI system that will be more sensitive yet less prone to interference from things like cell phones.

The Next Generation SLR is also being developed at GGAO, under the direction of Jan McGarry, with the goals of more automated operation and the ability to target satellites in higher orbits. Already operational for selected tasks, the system has been ranging to NASA's Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter since June 2009.

Another key innovation at Goddard's new station is the "vector tie" system that will link together all four measurement techniques. "Right now, we have these four independent techniques, and they're just that: independent," Lemoine says. "Presently, at a particular ground station, the techniques are only tied together by expensive and infrequently performed ground surveys."

But with the vector tie system, which will use a laser to continuously monitor the reference points of each technique, researchers will know exactly where a station's GPS, VLBI, SLR and DORIS sit relative to each other at all times, allowing them to better correct one of the last sources of error in the terrestrial reference frame.

Between 25 and 40 upgraded stations would need to be deployed worldwide the complete the new network. The importance of this investment is detailed in the report "Precise Geodetic Infrastructure: National Requirements for a Shared Resource" by the National Research Council of the National Academies in Washington, D.C.

Agencies around the world, including Germany's Bundesamt f?r Kartographie und Geod?sie, France's Institut G?ographique National, the Geographical Survey Institute of Japan, and Geoscience Australia, would build the stations. Together, these groups would choose the best locations, and the work would be done in cooperation with the Global Geodetic Observing System, a scientific organization that helps maintain the terrestrial reference frame.

"By bringing at least three of the four techniques together in each station, we will get a stronger system overall," says Frey. "NASA is leading the way in this, building a prototype station that will go beyond our current scientific requirements and serve the satellites of the future."

Fans of "The Hunger Games" are hungry to get their hands on tickets to the film. Presales for the flick have surpassed a record previously held by the third film in the "Twilight Saga" phenomenon, "Eclipse."

Fandango reports that the first day of presales for the film, which kicked off Wednesday, had already led to hundreds of sold-out showtimes in advance of the flick's March 23 opening day. "Eclipse" broke the first-day advance-sales record back on May 14, 2010. In the wake of the overwhelming interest in "Games," many theater owners have added more showtimes to keep up with the pace.

" 'The Hunger Games' is off to a fantastic start," said Rick Butler, executive vice president and general manager of Fandango. "Yesterday, we saw the biggest first-day advance-ticketing sales in our company's nearly 12-year history — which is especially impressive for a March release and a non-sequel."

With so much anticipation building, two new TV spots were released Wednesday. They feature lots of the film's leading lady, Jennifer Lawrence, as well as some more sneak peeks into how the rest of cast will look in the Gary Ross-directed big-screen adaptation. The 30-second clips also include glimpses at the action, heartbreak and strength of Lawrence's Katniss character. Of course, there's also some hot-guy eye candy, with quick glances at Liam Hemsworth and Josh Hutcherson.

Before the film hits theaters, the three leads — Lawrence, Hutcherson and Hemsworth — as well as much of the supporting cast will embark on a U.S. mall tour. It will hit eight cities, kicking off March 3 in Los Angeles and wrapping up March 10 in Seattle.

Check out everything we've got on "The Hunger Games."

Polish folk art society defends its 'Oskar' award

(AP) ? Few would confuse the glitz of the Academy Awards with a ceremony held by a folk arts society in Poland, but Hollywood doesn't want anyone else handing out Oscars.

So the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences is demanding that Poland's Association of Folk Artists stop giving out what it calls the "People's Oskar."

Waldemar Majcher of the Association of Folk Artists said Monday the dispute is the result a misunderstanding. But he also questioned Hollywood's demand.

Majcher said the "People's Oskar," was named after Oskar Kolberg, a 19th-century Polish ethnographer who wrote some 10,000 Polish folk songs. Still remembered and respected in Poland, Kolberg died in 1890.

In its 10-year history, the "People's Oskar" ? a metal plaque with an engraved image of Jesus ? has been awarded to individual artists, museums, folk festivals and even a bread fair.

Last week, Majcher said, he received a letter from Polish lawyers representing the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences protesting the use of the name "Oscar" in its Polish spelling "Oskar."

The letter from Wardynski and Partners ? which Majcher read to The Associated Press ? demands the Association of Folk Artists stop using that name and said the academy had obtained protection of the "Oscar" trademark in Poland in a law adopted in 2000.

The letter said the "verbal trademark Oscar ... is inseparably associated with the Academy Awards."

"The letter gave us a scare, but we are receiving plenty of encouragement from people," Majcher said, adding that in some ways members of his association are impressed that "such a big institution got interested in our modest project."

He said a team of lawyers is preparing a response defending the use of the name People's Oskar.

The Benefits Of Selling Green Real Estate | GreenWerks

The Benefits Of Selling Green Real Estate

There is a new trend happening in real estate and it is going green. More and more people are looking for homes that have at least been partially converted to an environmentally friendly home. Homeowners not only want to save money on utility bills but also have their eyes on the environment and how they can help save this earth for their children. This is a trend that is only going to get stronger as the years go by and anyone selling their home needs to look at the advantages of selling green real estate.

You may have noticed it yourself when you have had people in your home looking at it for a potential purchase. They may have asked you questions about your utility bills or may have paid a lot of attention to the windows and doors. These are all indications that homebuyers are looking for a little bit of green in every house.

If you are selling your home you should mention the green aspects of it. When you are showing people your home, take an extra moment to talk about the new energy-efficient windows you purchased last year or the new digital thermostat you had installed. This can make a difference when you are selling your home.

If you don?t have many green features that you can accentuate, the next best thing you can do is to physically add some green to your home. Pick up some leafy green plants and place them next to your sofa on the end tables. Purchase some beautiful leafy flowers that you can put on the night table beside your children?s bunk beds. Grab some of these leaves and arrange a few on top of the pillows on the bunk beds. This will create a green effect that will be to your advantage.

Adding plants and flowers to your home is always a good idea if you are trying to sell it anyway. It doesn?t take long for air in the house to get very stale, especially in the winter when the heat is on. Plants and flowers actually act as an air purifier in the home by adding extra oxygen to it.

Do whatever you can afford to do to green up your home for a faster sale. There are a lot of people that are thinking about the environment these days and looking for a home that has at least some green features to it. The more you can add to your home when it is up for sale the better chance you have of selling it quickly.

Unveiling the unknown: archiving the Black contribution to the ...

Archives & Society 29 March 2011 Leon Robinson (Positive Steps Organisation) Unveiling the unknown: archiving the Black contribution to the performing arts over three centuries ? ?

?I don?t want any more black artists to pass away without being acknowledged for the great work that they had done.??

This is Leon Robinson?s driving force for looking into long forgotten black artists from Victorian Britain.? Leon comes from a performing arts background but through his interest in collecting photographs and play bills of Victorian performers has moved into talking about history as a way of promoting what has almost become a lost history for the benefit of people today. ?This is British Entertainment History? not just black history, Leon states firmly.?

Our second ever live stream was therefore a lively passionate affair with Leon showing various photographs, advertisement posters and videos.? Leon?s collection derives primarily from postcard fairs and it is now a large and rare collection of known and forgotten performers.? Indeed, Leon states that it was those performers that were unknown that most interested him when thumbing through the dealers stands.? The excitement of the hunt comes through clearly.? Indeed, one of the most interesting parts of Leon?s talk (other than his clear enthusiasm for the subject) is his story of how he collected these sources over many years; how he created his archive himself and learnt about what was out there and where to look.?? Uncovering history is however, only part of it ? Leon is not collecting for collecting sake he wants to spread the word and let other people know about what he is learning and finding.? Through his Positive Steps Organisation, Leon has created various videos (some of which he shows) about the history of black performers and his attempts to get young people involved through the use of lenticulars of those performers.?

Leon also highlighted a problem in cataloguing systems especially related to finding or identifying the colour of Victorian performers.?? As an example Leon discussed a poster advertising a dance group with no images.? On another occasion when Leon went to an archive they told him that they had no materials on black entertainers but when Leon turned to leave he noticed a poster on the wall with the name Florence Mills? which he recognised as being a black artist.? There is a very real problem here of identification especially when there is no visual imagery to give us that identification.???

I was at the session itself and have since reviewed the video and both times I found it hard not to get enthused and excited about what Leon was talking about.? He reaches down to the heart of what makes an historian tick (the excitement of searching archives and discovering new things about our subjects) but expresses that enthusiasm in a way that few historians would allow of themselves.? This of course comes from Leon deriving from a performing arts background.? His interest is in the excitement of presentation of these sources and what they can say more than writing of articles and books.? I think one of the questions that we received from our online audience summed up my thoughts on this: it was great to see the ?physicality of the archives emphasised so much?.

Should I get the kids a pet rabbit? | Dallas Single Mom

With kids come pets and sometimes lots of pets. I remember always having pets. I grew up with a lot of pets and I know that my kids are getting older where one day they will want a pet. Of course pets are a big responsibility and one that can be very expensive and also involve a lot of time. I honestly have more reservations about getting a pet especially a pet rabbit and all of their Rabbit Cages?and rabbit food. I received a press release from Petco with regards to getting a pet rabbit in February.

San Diego, CA (PRWEB) February 15, 2012

Hop into Leap Year with the perfect cotton-tailed addition: a rabbit! According to PetFinder.com, over 1.4 million households are proud to call these furry friends their pets thanks to their outgoing and social demeanors. To celebrate Leap Year and National Adopt a Rabbit Month, Petco? stores nationwide will honor bunnies during the monthly Meet the Critters events on the weekend of February 18 and 19, 2012 from 1-2pm. Petco does not sell rabbits because they strongly encourage pet adoption; therefore, they work closely with a number of shelter groups, such as the House Rabbit Society, to give rabbits a forever home through adoption. Meet the Critters is a free, family-friendly event, enjoyable for people of all ages, which also invites rabbit owners to bring their cuddly pets in-store for a special meet and greet. Store associates and adoption groups will be on hand at the events to further educate current and hopeful rabbit parents about the benefits of owning a rabbit, as well as necessary care that is involved when being a pet parent to these special animals. Some things that kids and adults can learn in an educational seminar over the weekend include: ?Chomper? can be a common nickname to bunnies for good reason; their teeth never stop growing! To keep rabbits entertained and healthy, they enjoy new toys frequently Rabbits are quiet, but still very social and love interaction with their pet parents Rapunzel isn?t the only one that enjoys a nice hair brushing, being soft and clean comes easy for these critters as long as they receive a weekly brushing Rabbits are easily house-trained and generally sanitary, making them great companion pets in right households For families ready to hop into Leap Year with a rabbit, more information can be found at http://www.petco.com or visit a local Petco store in February. Lollapalooza Leaker Has Perry Farrell Hitting Below The Belt

After a Twitter user claims to reveal lineup for August fest, Lolla mastermind Farrell lashes out.
By James Montgomery

A Twitter user claiming to be "an anonymous Lollapalooza insider" has begun leaking the supposed lineup for the 2012 fest, a move that has so angered Lolla mastermind Perry Farrell that he's hitting below the belt.

It all began earlier this month, when the @LollaLeaks account went live, promising to reveal artists confirmed to perform at Lolla 2012 (set for August 3-5 in Chicago's Grant Park). Over the next few weeks, as the account's followers grew, @LollaLeaks made good on that promise, first listing mid-card acts (AWOLNATION, the Gaslight Anthem), and then pulling out the big guns, claiming that, in addition to a bunch of "comeback" acts (Korn, Missy Elliott, Garbage), this year's Lolla would also feature a headlining performance from none other than Beyoncé.

Then, in subsequent tweets, @LollaLeaks revealed even more headliners, a list that supposedly features Metallica, Red Hot Chili Peppers, the Killers, Beck and Sonic Youth, who would be performing their final show.

Of course, it was right around that time that Lollapalooza co-founder Farrell caught wind of the account and began a rather nasty war of words with whomever was behind it. He vaguely compared @LollaLeaks to both a sex offender and "a red tick," and finally delivered a punishing low blow, writing, "You must have a small penis." (Jim DeRogatis got off easy, it would seem.)

Farrell has alsocalled @LollaLeaks "a fraud," writing that this year's lineup "has not been finalized."

In the days since that verbal sparring, the @LollaLeaks account has continued revealing acts on the bill (YACHT, the Big Pink, Wild Flag, Ben Folds Five), though Farrell has seemingly moved on, giving sartorial advice and pining for sleep. A spokesperson for Lollapalooza did not have any comment on the leaker, but told MTV News that "the real lineup will be revealed in early April."

Michael Kors offers sporty glam at Fashion Week (AP)

NEW YORK ? The last bit of advice Michael Kors had for models at his New York Fashion Week show on Wednesday before they stepped out on to the runway: "Kill them with your chic."

He had those instructions on a poster just as they walked in front of a crowd that included Jessica Alba, Debra Messing and Anjelica Huston.

Kors starts his fashion shows at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week with a couple ? men's and women's clothes on the runway ? and for this fall season they were in his-and-her red-check outfits. He wore a tartan plaid coat and checkered trousers, she had on a fringed blanket coat in the lumberjack-style check pattern also known as buffalo check, with a cashmere tweed sweater and cashmere short shorts.

Their wardrobe, which also included a sexy, luxe glove-leather trenchcoat for her, and suede utility pants for him, was all about "sporty American glamour," Kors explained.

"I thought about the `30s and those glamorous Hollywood couples ? the Clark Gables and Carole Lombards," he said in an interview backstage.

Modern jet-setters want clothes for a life that is sometimes sporty, sometimes dressy, but always sophisticated. There was a loose ski motif through this collection, although Kors said he was more concerned with the apres-ski life at the lodge that he favors more than the slopes themselves.

But his muse might be headed to Aspen, Colo., from Shanghai or London, and her wardrobe needs to reflect that, he said. The black wool sleeveless peacoat that goes over a black beaded lace dress, or a camel-colored plaid mohair coat with a mohair sweater and plaid cropped pants seem like outfits that would fit into her life.

The black capelet jacket (a short cape) and pencil skirt, made of soft double-face cashgora (a mix of cashmere and angora) would take her anywhere. The black-and-ivory mohair dress with a feather skirt might be harder to pack, but would be worth trying.

His wardrobe is simpler, but heavy on the overcoats and slim, slightly short pants.

"Anywhere Michael goes, I go," said Messing. "Michael is my guy. We joke and say that we're third cousins, fourth times removed or something because we just clicked and I consider him a friend now, and you know I still am shocked that every collection there's always something that is fresh and new and forward-thinking, and yet still classic and strong and chic, and makes me feel like he designed it just for me."

A Young Girl and Her Family Find Hope Thanks to The Fellowship ...

Yael is a good-natured girl in the third grade at a religious school for special education. She suffers from severe Attention Deficit Disorder, which was neglected for years by her parents. Despite this challenge, Yael is very social and popular among her peers. One of her favorite activities is playing the drum at the Fellowship-sponsored Metsuba After-School Activity Center.

Yael was first brought to Metsuba by her father, who had recently been released from prison. Following his release, he decided to become more involved in the upbringing of his children, both because he missed them and because their mother had become lax in caring for them. Yael?s father had gone through drug rehabilitation in jail and continued therapy at a rehabilitation center in the community, trying hard not to fall into his old ways.

Sadly, Yael?s father recently was arrested again for drugs. Since then, Yael has become very quiet and withdrawn. The therapeutic team at Metsuba, with whom she has built a strong and trusting relationship, is working hard to help Yael through these hard times.

Yael?s mother has returned to being her primary caregiver and receives counseling and support from the therapeutic team at Metsuba. Yael, who eats her main hot meal there daily, is also given leftovers to take home to her family to help ease the pressure on her mother.

Thanks to Metsuba, and friends of The Fellowship who give generously to fund it, this struggling family has some measure of structure and support. Most importantly, they know they are not walking this tough road alone ? and that, to them, means everything in the world.

Super Stardust Delta review (Digital Trends)

Housemarque?s Super Stardust Delta is one of the cheapest PlayStation Vita launch titles at $9.99, and it?s also one of the games you absolutely need to pick up as soon as you get Sony?s new handheld into your hot little hands. Fans of Super Stardust HD will find plenty that?s familiar here. The formula?s been tweaked a bit, but Delta is the same sort of visually stimulating twin-stick shooter that its PS3 predecessor was. Only now it?s on the Vita, with leaner and meaner gameplay alongside some clever uses of the new portable?s unique control features.

The core Arcade mode is actually split into two separate entities: ?Delta? uses all of the new motion- and touch-based bells and whistles added for the Vita release, whereas ?Pure? uses only buttons and analog stick controls. From there you have the option of playing through the game?s planets ? each level is set above one planet, unfolding over five phases ? on casual, normal or hardcore difficulties.

For those who aren?t familiar, the actual game involves using the left analog stick to pilot your ship around a planet while using the right stick to fire either of your weapons in any direction, with unlimited ammo, independent of how you?re moving. In Delta you have just two weapons to switch between: Fire and Ice. Fire is more effective against red-colored targets and Ice is more effective against blue-colored ones.

Green is what you?ll want to watch for, however. Destroyed objects leave behind green dust that can be collected for points. There are also green-colored asteroids that drop point boosters and power-ups when destroyed. Your ship is also equipped with a speed boost (mapped to LT) that makes it temporarily invulnerable, a great tool for getting out of a jam.

You?ll also have access to super-weapons. Which you?ll be using depend on whether you?re playing in Delta or Pure. Pure?s special is a button-mapped EMP attack that effectively clears your surrounding area. Delta gets two specials, triggered by tapping either the front touchscreen, for a missile barrage, or the rear touchpad, for a black hole. You can also adjust the camera in Delta by tilting the Vita forward and back or left and right. Using these tools, you?ll work through each of the five planets? five phases, each one ending with a boss battle.

Each time you polish off a planet, you unlock a high-score-based minigame that uses the Vita?s touch or motion controls in one way or another. In one, you?re tilting the device to move targeting crosshairs around the screen, hitting the two triggers to fire at enemy forces converging on a friendly you?re tasked with protecting. In another, you slide around as you maneuver a disc into blue-colored objects while avoiding red ones. These are all simple time-wasters, but they make good use of the Vita?s unique elements.

Mere descriptions don?t really capture the joy of playing Super Stardust Delta. Fans of bullet hell shoot-em-ups and frenetic, fast-paced arcade-shooting galleries should be all over this. Delta is relentless, especially in its later levels. You?ll need to be quick with your fingers to survive a first attempt at taking on any of the five planets, even on the casual difficulty setting. The level layouts and enemy formations never change, so learning the game is very much a matter of repetition.

Conclusion

Fortunately, there?s very little frustration in having to accept a do-over thanks to the delicious eye candy Housemarque has on display. Each level is a veritable fireworks show of exploding enemies, swirling pickups and glowing green space dust, with all of it set to techno beats that fit the scenes perfectly. It?s not an understatement to call Delta the best-looking game yet for the Vita. It is, without question.

You get all of that for $9.99. If there?s any problem worth pointing out, it?s the learning curve. There?s no tutorial and the game is not friendly to newcomers unless you?re listening carefully for instructions from the in-game computer voice. It doesn?t take long to figure out what?s going on, though you may need to restart once or twice.

This is an admittedly minor complaint, however. The game may not be kicking down any doors with its new ideas, but it?s a perfect fit for the Vita with its on-the-go-friendly gameplay, beautiful visuals and clever use of the portable?s more unique features. Overall, Housemarque presents us with one of the most compelling reasons to own a PlayStation Vita at launch with Super Stardust Delta.

Bradford Dental Care Tips

Tooth care is one of the most vital practices instilled in every person since childhood. The great majority of oral complications start from unhealthy habits that developed over a period. However , these can still be stopped or corrected with the following free Bradford dental care tips:

Brushing. This is the most basic care for the teeth. Many individuals have a misinterpretation that brushing any old way is OK. Nevertheless brushing the right way will ensure an exemplary difference in preventing cavities, tooth and gum diseases!

Flossing. Each and Every dentist advises flossing everyday to avoid any gum diseases. Morsels stuck amongst teeth should be removed to be certain it won?t rot and destroy the teeth. Moreover, plaque and tartar accumulation which can destroy tooth enamel, is also averted.

Tongue and Cheek Cleaning. Bacteria are not just on teeth most of them stay in the tongue and on the inside of the cheek. This causes bad breath and acids to grow on the inside of the mouth.

Good Diet. Maintaining a sensible diet is beneficial for oral health. To protect gums and teeth, fluoridation is usually advised. Calcium intake thru supplements and alternative sources can also help fortify the teeth.

Vitamins. Fruits that contain Vitamins C like oranges, berries and apples have been known to be beneficial for the gums in staying strong and forestall bleeding. As well as, foods loaded in Vitamin A are critical elements in enamel development. Examples of this food group includes: carrots, pumpkins and broccoli. Chewing on fruit and vegetables also help in cleaning teeth and gums.

Home Remedies. There are ingredients found in your kitchen which can help in maintaining excellent teeth and gums. Raw onions contain sulphur which eliminates bacteria; plaque may be taken away by sesame seeds and celery could help in saliva production.

Green Tea. Purify with green tea to help stop cavities, plaque and gum diseases. It also erradicates halitosis. Nevertheless flavored and artificially prepared green teas should be avoided as they often contain sugars and colorants that can damage teeth.

Water. As the most essential and generally available drink, water promotes oral health by assisting in rinse off any food residue and acids that might be stuck in the teeth.

Habits. Cut bad oral and health habits. Avoid over-indulging on chips, sodas, candies and gums that contain sugar. Smoking is also a habit that should be steered clear of or eliminated immediately. Additionally, food and drinks that contain acid such as wine and vinegars must be taken in moderation.

Regular Visits. The annual visit to the dentist should not be put off for who knows what reason. For some, this practice is thought of as a luxury which can sometimes be postponed for another time. But something little and correctable now, could mean something big, and possibly hazardous if left for too long. When living in Bradford, dental care is a crucial part of general fitness for the whole family.

Why relinquish thousands of unneccesary monies on dental surgery when merely a few daily steps can help assure a lifetime of natural healthy smiles.

What the latest LHC revelations say about the Higgs

In December 2011, the elusive Higgs boson was back in the limelight when hints of the particle emerged in the wreckage of proton collisions at the world's most powerful particle smasher ? the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) near Geneva, Switzerland.

There have been no new collisions since, but researchers from the LHC's two main detectors have given the existing data a more careful look, culminating in two fresh Higgs analyses released on Tuesday. Here New Scientist disentangles what we can and can't conclude about the particle that is swiftly becoming the people's favourite

Remind me: what was the scoop in December?
The Higgs boson is the missing piece of the standard model of physics, the leading theory for how particles and forces interact. The Higgs is thought to endow others with mass but has yet to be positively observed, so its mass ? and existence ? are still unconfirmed.

In December, the LHC's two main particle detectors, CMS and ATLAS, each reported excesses of events, such as the appearance of a pair of photons in the shrapnel from particle collisions. These excess events could be due to a Higgs with a mass of around 125 gigaelectron volts (GeV; particle masses and energy can be treated interchangeably).

Great. End of story?
Far from it. Since more mundane reactions can produce such events too, they do not provide definitive evidence for the Higgs.

By convention, researchers only declare a discovery when an anomaly reaches a statistical significance known as 5 sigma, which means there is less than a 1-in-a-million chance it is just a fluke. The size of the anomalies reported by the two detectors in seminar in December was 1.9 sigma for CMS and 2.5 sigma for ATLAS, which indicate a probability of a fluke of roughly 1 per cent.

So what's the latest?
After taking a closer look at the data, ATLAS finds little need for revision, reporting the same 2.5 sigma significance as before. But the CMS analysis reports some extra events that were not analysed in time for LHC's December announcement. These events could be due to a Higgs boson of around 125 GeV decaying into a pair of photons ? after being produced from the collision of two particles called W and Z bosons, that transmit the weak force.

Adding these events to the December analysis gives a small boost to the overall statistical significance of CMS's Higgs hint, which now stands at 2.1 sigma. "It's not a radically different picture," says Greg Landsberg of Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island, who works on CMS.

What's this about 4.3 sigma, then?
A blog post on the Nature website on Tuesday states that an unofficial synthesis of the two results gives a significance of 4.3 sigma. But Pauline Gagnon of ATLAS says it would be premature to reach that conclusion before the Moriond conference in La Thuile, Italy, in March. "Combining the two experiments may happen after the first week of March but not before," she says. "Until then, it is anyone's guess."

Will combining the CMS and ATLAS results boost the significance?
Not necessarily, Landsberg says. The two detectors do not see an excess at exactly the same mass: CMS sees one at 124 GeV, ATLAS at 126 GeV. That might be due to errors in mass measurements by at least one of the detectors, in which case further analysis could bring the two masses into line.

The other possibility is that they are both seeing flukes that happened to show up at nearly the same mass. "You have to carefully sift through different sources of uncertainties," warns Landsberg, to figure out which answer is more likely.

When will we know whether the Higgs is out there?
More data will be needed. The LHC will start up again in late March or early April after its winter shutdown. CERN officials are still trying to decide whether to boost the energy of this year's collisions from 7000 GeV to 8000 GeV. A decision could be announced as early as Friday, says Laurent Serin of the French National Institute of Nuclear and Particle Physics (CNRS/IN2P3).

If the Higgs exists, collisions at the higher energy would produce more Higgs particles, making it easier to spot. Either way, the LHC will confirm or rule out the Higgs by the end of 2012, says Landsberg. "It's a very exciting year, and hopefully a year from now I can point to discovery papers."

Poll number 2: Only 39 percent believe insurance plans should ...

Poll number 2: Only 39 percent believe insurance plans should cover contraceptives

Posted by Charles Maldonado on Wed, Feb 8, 2012 at 11:06 AM

Yesterday, we saw this survey from the Public Religion Research Institute, which found that a majority of respondents ? particularly Catholic respondents ? believe that employers should be required to provide insurance plans that include birth control coverage.

Now, we have this poll, from Rasmussen Reports, whose findings are quite different. The Rasmussen poll of 1,000 likely voters found that only 39 percent of respondents backed the federal requirement. Why the disparity?

Well, let's look at the wording of the questions. PRRI asked it this way:

There is currently a debate over what kinds of health care plans some religious organizations should be required to provide. Do you think [INSERT; RANDOMIZE] should be required to provide their employees with health care plans that cover contraception or birth control at no cost, or not? What about [INSERT]?

Rasmussen, however, put it this way:

The requirement to provide contraceptives for women violates deeply held beliefs of some churches and religious organizations. If providing such coverage violates the beliefs of a church or religious organization, should the government still require them to provide coverage for contraceptives?

(Continued after the jump)

Let's get it out of the way that PRRI is often criticized by conservatives for being left-leaning, while Rasmussen is criticized by liberals for being right-leaning. Fine.

Now, there's the fact that the Rasmussen question takes pains to say that the requirement "violates deeply held beliefs" of churches and religious institutions, while PRRI glosses that over with "there is currently a debate ... ." They're both being manipulative ? PRRI a little less so ?but even that's irrelevant to why Rasmussen's question is deeply flawed.

In PRRI's question, there are two categories of "religious institutions." One is hospitals, colleges and other institutions that are not solely, or even mostly, dedicated to religious practice and serve the entire community, regardless of religion. The other category is places of worship.

Rasmussen, on the other hand, puts them all together. That's problematic because the actual debate here has nothing to do with places of worship or religious bureaucracies. Even in PRRI's poll, 57 percent of respondents said they didn't believe that churches/synagogues/etc. should be required to provide contraceptive coverage for their employees. Which is fine because those are already exempt from the requirement. Yet Rasmussen's question implies that they won't be, lumping all "religious organizations" into one bullshit highly questionable category.
