For a long time it seemed certain UFC heavyweights Junior dos Santos and Alistair Overeem were destined to duke it out inside the Octagon. Of course, at the time Dos Santos was divisional king and Overeem was a powerhouse riding the momentum of an impressive winning streak.
While both men are coming off losses, changing the dynamic of their duel, fans will still have a chance to see the two clash come May 25 at UFC 160. The Memorial Day Weekend event is headlined by a title-fight featuring Cain Velasquez-Antonio Silva (who beat Dos Santos/Overeem respectively in their most recent rumbles).
The bout was confirmed this week on UFC Tonight.
The 15-2 Dos Santos suffered his first stumble in the UFC to Velasquez last December. Prior to the defeat ?Cigano? had gone 9-0 in under the organization?s banner including success against the likes of Fabricio Werdum, Shane Carwin, and Velasquez in their initial encounter.
Overeem had picked up eleven straight victories before running into Silva earlier this month at UFC 156. The Dutch finisher owns a career mark of 36-12 with 34 stoppages to his credit.
