CINCINNATI (AP) - The Cincinnati Reds have retired Barry Larkin?s No. 11 in a ceremony before their game against the St. Louis Cardinals.
Larkin, joined on the field by members of his family, former teammates and members of the Reds organization, watched as his number was unveiled Saturday, accompanied by a fireworks display. He threw a ceremonial first pitch to current Reds second baseman Brandon Phillips.
Larkin spent his entire 19-year career with his hometown team and was inducted into baseball?s Hall of Fame this summer. He hit .295 with 198 home runs and 960 RBIs. He was the NL MVP in 1995 and helped the Reds win the World Series in 1990.
