The 33rd Edition of Mahana Salon Du Tourisme was held in Lyon, France from 15th to 17th February 2013. The promotional travel event was attended by John Hughes of Randwick B&B in Ballyshannon. The opening Hours of the fair was from 10.00 -19.00 each day. The Mahana Salon Du Tourisme is a very important holiday fair in Lyon, being the third largest city in France with a population of over 2 million people.
The format of the event had changed slightly since B&B Ireland last attended in 2011. Tourism Ireland were not present at this particular promotion, however Severine Lecart from the Tourism Ireland office in Paris was in attendance to help exhibitors set up their stands. B&B Ireland was located in what was termed as ?Le Village des Chambres D?Hotes et Gites? ?a section of the fair dedicated to the promotion of the B&B experience within France. This was the first time it had been done in Mahana Lyon. ?Overall a very large venue comprised of one large hall with more then 330 exhibitors.
More then 330 Exhibitors and 27.012 visitors met during the 3 Days. Friday was a working day, but 33% of the visitors attended the fair on Friday an increase of 9% on the same day last year. The press covered the event before and during the show. 45 journalists attended the press conference and the number grew by 24% on last year. Sunday was a very positive day at the event with lots of requests for information about Ireland on Sunday. The B&B Ireland brochures were in demand all weekend and by the end of the event, very few brochures were left behind.
Tourism Ireland provided B&B Ireland with a booklet where the visitor could request further information. This information would then be posted to them after the event. Each exhibitor was asked to give a 10 minute presentation to the press on their product in French. John Hughes provided the interview representing B&B Ireland and providing a wonderful insight into the B&B experience in Ireland. He was also interviewed by a reporter and film crew at the stand with a questions and answers on Ireland in general.
Overall the fair was well attended on each of the days.? B&B Ireland distributed several hundred copies of the B&B Ireland brochure during this fair. ?The majority of calls to the stand were from visitors who have been to Ireland, and were very familiar with the B&B product and liked the B&B product. Many visitors intended returning to Ireland in the near future. Each visitor was encouraged to take a Brochure and Mr. Hughes explained that the brochure is the main comprehensive list of Bed and Breakfasts throughout all of Ireland. As this is the main travel fair in Lyon, it is important that B&B Ireland has a presence at the event. The B&B product is well received in France and our website is fully translated into French making it even easier for French visitors to choose www.bandbireland.com/fr
