Cook County Commission on Women's Issues Seeks Nominees for ...

The Cook County Commission on Women?s issues is accepting nominations for Peggy A. Montes Unsung Heroine Awards in honor of Women?s History Month.
The ?Unsung Heroine? award recognizes the accomplishments of women throughout Cook County who contribute significantly to the betterment of their communities, but are seldom recognized.
One unsung heroine will be chosen from each of the county?s 16 districts, along with a heroine at large.? The named recipients will be honored at breakfast during Women?s History Month in March.
Named for women?s rights activist and founder of the Bronzeville Children?s Museum Peggy A. Montes, the Unsung Heroine Awards celebrates the powerful impact by celebrating the achievements of the many women throughout Cook County.

Cook County Commissioner Joan Patricia Murphy is seeking nominees for the Unsung Heroine Award thative in her 6th district. ?These nominees are our neighbors, our mothers, our sisters, our friends," Murphy said in a press release. "These women make a difference in our lives through their generous gift of their time, energy, expertise and leadership.?

Nominees must be involved in their community in a volunteer or professional capacity and be someone who has not received widespread recognition. Elected officials are not eligible.

Organizations or fellow citizens to submit entry nominations. Nomination entry forms will be available at Commissioner Joan Murphy?s Office located at 5405 W. 127th Street in Crestwood or by calling Commissioner Murphy?s office at (708)389-2125.

All nomination entries must be received by Jan. 11, 2013.
