2012 Track Meet Participants | The Town Courier


LPMS students Timothy Kress and Tristan Dye qualify for the Hershey Track & Field State Meet.


Four students from Lakelands Park Middle School qualified for and competed in the Hershey Track and Field 2012 Maryland State Championship Meet held at Watkins Mill High School in Gaithersburg on June 23. The City of Gaithersburg, Department of Parks, Recreation and Culture hosted the meet while The Firebirds Track Club conducted the event.

The city?s 2012 Spring Track and Field Program had over 220 participating athletes, ranging in ages from 7 to 14 years. In order to qualify for the state championship meet, athletes first competed in a local track meet that tested their speed, endurance and agility.

On June 8, the city of Gaithersburg held its qualifying meet, and 57 participants qualified for the state meet. Tristan Dye qualified in the boys? 13/14 100-meter and long jump events. Timothy Kress qualified in the boys? 13/14 100-meter and was named an alternate in the 200-meter. Stephen Lang qualified in the boys? 13/14 800-meter and softball throw and was named an alternate in the 1,600-meter. Ethan Mara qualified in the boys? 11/12 400-meter.

Dye and Kress did received awards from the city of Gaithersburg for Outstanding State Athlete 2012.

In addition to the athletes from the city of Gaithersburg, qualifying athletes from the cities of Cumberland and Rockville and Howard, Harford, Montgomery, Prince George?s, St. Mary?s and Wicomico counties also competed in the state championship meet.
