Report: Next iPhone to have extra-thin screen

44 min.

Like a celebrity who's?frequently splashed across tabloid covers, the next iPhone?? an unannounced product the press can't stop writing about?? is now rumored to be going through a bit of a slim-down.

A report in the Wall Street Journal?explains that "people familiar with the matter" say that the next-generation iPhone will "use a new technology that makes the smartphone's screen thinner."

For reference: The current iPhone model is 9.3?millimeters, according to Apple's website.?

According to DisplaySearch analyst Hiroshi Hayase, who spoke to the WSJ, the technology supposedly being used in the next-generation iPhone "integrates touch sensors into the LCD, making it unnecessary to have a separate touch-screen layer."?Skipping that layer, which is described as being about half a millimeter thick, means that a screen will be thinner?? and potentially offer higher quality images.

Like any report based on anonymous sources and speculation from industry analysts, this one should be taken with a hefty serving of salt. After all, until there's word straight from the gods of Cupertino themselves, nothing's for certain.
