9 Injured In Gulf Oil Explosion (KUTV) Nine workers were airlifted after an explosion on an oil platform in the Gulf of Mexico Friday ? two workers are still missing.The blast happened off the Southern Coast of Louisiana Friday morning. Crews worked for hours and were finally able to extinguish the massive fire that engulfed the structure.
Operators say 28 people were on board the platform at the time. There have already been reports of sheen on the water.
Environmental workers are on the scene to determine a trajectory for the sheen.
The Coast Guard says the fire has stopped and that the rig is structurally sound.
