Hikers at Brantley Lake on Monday found bones and the identification of Eric Ahlskog, a Roswell resident reported missing in the Brantley Lake area in 2011.
Human remains were found at Brantley Lake Monday afternoon by a group of hikers. New Mexico State Police believe the remains belong to Roswell resident Eric Ahlskog, a Roswell resident who was reported missing last year.Ahlskog was 28 when he was last seen July 3, 2011, camping at the state park, located 12 miles north of Carlsbad. The remains consisted of a skull and several larger bones, according to State Police. Ahlskog's identification card was also found buried inches under the soil, where the body was excavated.
Cause of death is still unknown. The Office of Medical Investigation will be performing an autopsy and running dental records within the next month. The Search and Recovery Dive Team retrieved the remains one mile east of Champion Bay in a dried lake bed that was previously filled with water during the last search.
The assumed victim had a history of depression and had been prescribed anti-depressants and anti-anxiety medications by a psychiatrist just a few days before he was reported missing. A search was conducted by State Police in early July 2011. Searchers followed his until his tracks disappeared. Border Patrol search dogs also sniffed out his scent until it was lost near the KOA campgrounds.
According to Sgt. Monica Martinez-Jones with the State Police Investigations Bureau, there haven't been any other records of a missing person in that area since the time Ahlskog was last seen.
The New Mexico State Police will
be working on the identification of the remains to verify that it was in fact Ahlskog. State police ran a criminal investigation immediately after the remains were found and no foul play was suspected.sacha baron cohen best picture nominees 2012 academy awards 2012 albert nobbs a star is born oscar nominees oscar nominations 2012
